Diabetes, also known as Diabetes Mellitus, is a disorder which causes blood sugar levels to remain too high. While people need sugar in their blood to live, high levels can have a number of serious health consequences. Normally, when blood sugar levels rise the pancreas releases a hormone called insulin into the blood. Our bodies use insulin to lower the level of sugar in our blood.
