II. Bathing

C. Bath Devices

4. Bathing devices

Bathing devices can help the care recipient in coping with the effects of joint limitations, impaired balance, and decreased strength. Used properly, bathing devices can increase safety in bathing and provide the opportunity for bathing when it would otherwise be difficult or impossible. Bathing devices can help decrease or eliminate pain caused by getting down into the bathtub. For individuals who are afraid of falling, bathing devices can offer them support and security.

To determine the correct bathing device, the amount of back support the elder care recipient requires and whether or not he/she will be receiving assistance with actual bathing task must be considered. The ranking order of bath devices are listed here from those that require the least amount of back support to the highest amount of support.
